ZF Brake Systems' new plant in Wuhan has officially commenced operations

On October 18, 2025, the global automotive supplier ZF Group officially began operations at its new plant in the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone, marking a significant milestone in its strategic expansion in China. Serving as a core production base for brake components in the Asia-Pacific region, the plant incorporates smart and green manufacturing practices that comply with China’s highest green factory standards. It employs intelligent energy monitoring through smart meters, utilizes AGV robots for material transport, and maximizes natural lighting in its workshops, underscoring its commitment to sustainability.

The new plant will primarily manufacture electronic parking brake calipers (EPB), which provide significant safety and convenience advantages over traditional mechanical systems by enabling electronically controlled parking brakes. Since ZF introduced this technology in 1999 and integrated motors with calipers, EPB has evolved to its sixth generation, becoming a hallmark achievement in smart mechanical systems. In the future, the plant will also establish production lines for next-generation electromechanical brake calipers (EMB), a technology that combines electric drive with mechanical braking to deliver more efficient and precise performance—a crucial advancement in the automotive industry's intelligent transformation.

Peter Hartmann, a member of ZF's Executive Board, stated that China is a critical strategic market and an innovation hub, offering an ideal environment for the development of smart chassis technology. Since its establishment in 2011, ZF's Wuhan plant has produced over 70 million brake calipers. The new plant will further strengthen its position as a regional hub and help promote "Wuhan-made" technology globally. A representative from the Wuhan Economic and Technological Development Zone emphasized the ongoing support for enterprises to drive industrial chain upgrades.
