Scania G410 LNG Truck in Europe
Scania possesses ample technical expertise for LNG vehicles in Europe. However, considering the characteristics of the Chinese market and its own high-end positioning, the company has chosen not to introduce such models at this time. The core reasons are summarized as follows:
Core Business Logic: Excessive Fluctuations in the Oil-Gas Price Gap
The market performance of LNG heavy-duty trucks in China is highly dependent on the price gap between oil and gas, with sales exhibiting a long-term "roller-coaster" fluctuation trend. In the first quarter of 2026, the market share of gas-powered heavy-duty trucks exceeded 50%. However, when the terminal LNG price surged rapidly in late April, a "gas more expensive than oil" inversion occurred in some regions, causing sales to plummet sharply in May.
Scania is concerned that the significant uncertainty in fuel costs will directly undermine the stability of users' Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), which is already less favorable compared to the operational efficiency of its existing diesel models. Some Chinese LNG users have switched to Scania's diesel vehicle lineup, and after a comprehensive calculation, the overall TCO is actually more advantageous.

Product Positioning Misaligned with the Core Target Market
Scania's key competitive segment in China is high-end long-distance trunk logistics, where users prioritize attendance rates and operational stability significantly more than short-term fuel price fluctuations. In contrast, the primary consumer group for Chinese LNG heavy-duty trucks consists mainly of price-sensitive individual operators, which poorly aligns with Scania's high-end brand positioning and premium product pricing strategy.
Meanwhile, the current production capacity and supply chain resources of Scania's Rugao Plant are prioritized for the launch of mature diesel Super Series models to ensure that localized production quality meets European standards. For the time being, no separate localized production line has been established for LNG models.
Long-Term Strategic Priority Shift
Scania China established a dedicated Venture & New Business department in 2026, allocating all core resources to future-oriented long-haul transportation solutions such as electrification and autonomous driving, instead of pursuing the transitional LNG technology route.
