Performance of Scania Rugao Plant's Super Tractor
The Super tractor produced at Scania's Rugao plant maintains the brand's global unified standards while being optimized for the Chinese market. Its key strengths lie in its powertrain, fuel efficiency, and smart features.
The locally produced Super tractor is equipped with Scania's latest DC13 series engine, available in three power options: 460 hp, 500 hp, and 560 hp. The 560 hp variant delivers peak torque of 2800 N·m within a low RPM range (900-1400 rpm), with a thermal efficiency of up to 50%. It is paired with Scania's G33 AMT transmission, ensuring smooth gear shifts and compatibility with intelligent shift systems.
Thanks to optimized combustion and drivetrain coordination, the Super powertrain achieves significant fuel savings. Real-world operations in China report an average fuel consumption of 25.9 L/100 km, representing a reduction of at least 10% compared to previous generations. Some models (e.g., the 500R 6×2) feature a liftable third axle to reduce tire wear and fuel consumption when unloaded.
The locally produced models come with enhanced smart features, including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.9-inch central touchscreen, and advanced driver-assistance systems such as Predictive Cruise Control (CCAP), Adaptive Cruise Control Plus (AiCC plus), and Lane Departure Warning with Correction (LDWAS). The EAS electric-hydraulic power steering system also reduces driver fatigue.
Four variants are tailored for different transport needs:
· 460R 4×2 : Lightweight design for express and general cargo transport.
· 500R 4×2: Optimized for high-efficiency logistics.
· 500R 6×2: Equipped with a liftable third axle and air suspension, ideal for reefer transport.
· 560R 6×2 Pro: Top-tier model for heavy-haul and challenging road conditions.
The Rugao plant adheres to Scania's global production standards, ensuring consistency with European manufacturing. The locally produced Super tractor offers a "high-spec, competitive pricing" strategy to strengthen Scania's position in China's premium truck market.
