In March 2026, the local production facility in Rugao, Jiangsu, began regular deliveries of the Scania Super series (NEXT ERA) heavy-duty trucks, marking the full implementation of Scania’s “Strategy 2.0.” Built on the Traton global modular platform, the model—specifically the Scania Super 500R 4x2—has a starting price of RMB 539,000, precisely targeting the premium segment of China’s domestic heavy-duty truck market and directly competing with mainstream models such as the Dongfeng Tianlong KL, Shaanxi Auto Delong X5000, and Sinotruk Howo TX. The first batch of orders sold out 1,007 units within 24 hours of launch, with customer feedback primarily highlighting advantages in total cost of ownership and improvements in operational efficiency.

Technical Architecture and Powertrain Deep Dive

Powertrain: Equipped with the TD13 500-horsepower diesel engine, specifically optimized for China’s long-haul operations (peak torque: 2550 N·m), paired with Scania’s proprietary PG14 14-speed AMT automatic transmission, which enables seamless power delivery and intelligent shift logic prediction.

Fuel Economy: Real-world testing under full load on highways shows fuel consumption ranging from 23.74 to 27 L/100 km, achieving 12–15% fuel savings compared to domestic competitors. When combined with the FU fuel optimization system and active grille shutters, the total fuel-saving potential increases to up to 8%.

Aerodynamics and Safety: The vehicle features an ultra-low drag coefficient of 0.37, setting a new industry benchmark. Its active safety system complies with EU standards and includes a 9th-generation electronic braking system and Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB). The braking distance at 70 km/h significantly surpasses Chinese national standards.

Reliability: The manufacturer claims a lifecycle mileage of 2 million kilometers. Core components—including the engine, transmission, and axle—are derived from the Traton modular platform. They share the R756 drive axle and DC13 architecture with MAN, ensuring consistent global quality control.
