The origin of China’s National Day dates back to October 1, 1949, when Chairman Mao Zedong proclaimed the establishment of the Central People’s Government of the People’s Republic of China at Tiananmen Square in Beijing. This date symbolizes national independence and the dawn of a new era for the nation, making it a significant annual celebration across the country.

·  About the Mid-Autumn Festival

The Mid-Autumn Festival in China dates back over 3,000 years to the Shang Dynasty (1600–1046 BC), when people worshipped the moon as a celestial deity. It became an official festival during the Tang Dynasty (618–907 AD) and flourished in the Song Dynasty (960–1279 AD), with poetry and family gatherings at the tradition‌.

The full moon symbolizes unity and is China’s second most important family holiday after the Lunar New Year. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, people typically engage in traditional activities such as eating round mooncakes (symbolizing harmony), displaying lanterns, and moon-gazing. Since 2008, it has been a public holiday in China, celebrated with travel and cultural events.
